Faux Finishing...
The art of faux finishing has been seen throughout history and, at its roots, strives to imitate natural elements such as stone, marble, and wood. Over the years, new techniques and styles have emerged to produce an invaluable and versatile tool to the world of interior design. In addition to creating the perfect backdrop for furnishings and artwork, faux finishing can impart character and personality to a home. Add drama to a room with a bold finish, or choose a more subtle finish to add instant softness and warmth. Consider applying a faux finish to unlikely surfaces as well – lend timeless charm to kitchen cabinetry through distressing; combine glazing techniques and a hand-painted motif to take custom built-ins or vanities to a whole new level; treat tray ceilings with an elegant finish; or apply a decorative border that mimics marquetry or hand inlays to hardwood floors.
Lisa Park, decorative artist for Turn Key Solutions, brings her fascination with the artform to you through a variety of available finishes. In addition to traditional glazing techniques, she also employs a number of trowel-applied, textured finishes to achieve unique and beautiful results. A room veiled in a multi-layer Venetian plaster technique imparts class and distinctive character; walls covered in a rich faux-leather technique appear sturdy and masculine; a faux-linen technique wraps a room in country charm and comfort; and an aged-plaster technique infuses a space with old-world appeal. There is a finish to complement every design style - the possibilities are truly endless!
